What you get
On October 21, 2026 Cohere released Rerank 5 in two versions: rerank-v5.0-pro for the best quality and rerank-v5.0-fast for low latency. Cohere says the fast version beats Rerank 4 Pro.
Two things are new. Context Focus is an optional relevant_spans setting that returns the most relevant passages inside each document as scored character spans. Relevance scores are now calibrated, so one threshold works across different queries. Both models take 32k tokens of context and cover 100+ languages.
Rerank 4 models are still listed.

Steps
- Change
modeltorerank-v5.0-proorrerank-v5.0-fast. No re-indexing is needed. - Leave Context Focus off (the default) unless you want passage spans back.
- If you filter results by score, re-tune your cut-off on the new calibrated scores.
Test it
Run the same query against Rerank 4 and Rerank 5 and compare the top results and their scores.
